A whole combination of factors contributes to the formation of acne. The pimple that develops on the face of someone with acne can be caused by any one of those factors. It could be the result of a less than nutritive diet, a stressful lifestyle, a hormonal imbalance or an exposure to toxins.

Whatever the cause, the resulting pimple looks pretty much like all the others. That is because every pimple results from the same set of physiological changes. Thus, any useful tips and advice on how to get rid of pimples should include some details about those changes.

Each pore in the human skin produces natural oil, a substance called sebum. When a buildup of that oil begins to trap bits of dead skin, then it can clog the associated pore. Sometimes dirt and bacteria collect in one or more of the clogged pores.

If that pore remains exposed to the air, then it invites growth of any trapped bacterium. In that case, a blackhead will form. Those pores that remain covered with a thin layer of skin can develop into the type of pimples known as whiteheads.

Some tips concerning pimples advise against their removal at home. In fact, there are safe ways to carry at an at home removal of pimples. Yet no such method should be tried without adherence to one useful tip. That tip concerns the timing of the procedure. It should take place after the pimple has formed completely. Otherwise, the underlying bacteria are apt to be pushed further into the skin.

There are two ways to get rid of pimples. One calls for use of a needle, a clean cloth, cotton or gauze, alcohol and hot water. Those who choose to try this first method should first wash their face and hands. Those teens and adults with a clean hand and face can then step up to a mirror and stick a sterile needle into the unwanted pimple. Pressure should then be applied to the pricked area. Cotton can be used to cushion the effect of that pressure.

The second method involves use of a salicylic acid based cream, an ice pack and some gel like toothpaste. The first step of this second method should be performed at night. It involves application to the face of the salicylic acid based cream. After the treated face has been patted dry, then the ice pack should be applied to the offensive red and raised section of that same visage.

The ice pack must do more than simply touch the pimpled skin. It should remain in contact with the inflamed region for a full ten minutes. After a one minute break, a second two minute exposure should take place. Then that entire series should be repeated one more time. To avoid a re-appearance of pimpled skin, the facial tissues should be washed daily with warm water and a mild soap.
